SEND Provision

The Learning Support Department is made up of a team of experienced staff including the SENDCo (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Co-ordinator - Emma Maslen), teaching assistants and volunteers. The learning support team is based in the inclusion block (our old sixth form centre) which provides a base from which to work with individuals and small groups of students. As a team we provide advice, guidance and support to students, staff and parents. Our SENDCo can be contacted through emailing send@newmillsschool.co.uk.

The inclusion block is open at all times of the day, supporting students with a wide range of needs. It offers a number of programmes of support, delivered by enthusiastic and effectively trained staff. The largest proportion of the support is classroom based with our teaching assistants working closely with subject teachers to enhance the learning experience of the students. Only a small minority of students access some of their learning in the inclusion block during the school day as we believe that our young people benefit most from being taught by subject specialists but with extra support alongside. Students also have the opportunity for support with homework every evening until 4pm.

The learning support department aims to work closely with parents, students and staff to ensure that all students achieve their full potential and enjoy their learning.
