Headteacher's Welcome

A very warm welcome to our website. We hope that reading these pages will help you to gain an insight into the essence and heart of our school.

New Mills School is a vibrant 11-18 school and Sixth Form that prides itself in being at the heart of the community and its ability to meet the needs of all its learners. We are a caring, friendly and strongly inclusive school. We pride ourselves on the positive relationships that exist at all levels in the school which are based on honesty, respect and trust.

Our core purpose is to ensure that students of all abilities and backgrounds have high aspirations and achieve their potential. We have high expectations for all our students and they are challenged and supported to achieve their best in all aspects of their academic work and personal development. We instill in them the belief that with hard work and endeavour, they can improve, they can enjoy and they can achieve.

We are committed to providing our students with the best possible education through the provision of high quality learning opportunities both in the classroom and outside, equipping them with the necessary skills and qualifications to take their place in the demanding world of the 21st Century.
Beyond the school, we enjoy high levels of student participation in extra-curricular activities; these include overseas exchanges and visits of both a cultural or purely recreational nature. We compete successfully in sports and have a vibrant musical and artistic life. Students take an active part in raising money for charities and enjoy a varied enrichment programme which encompasses Science, Technology, Mathematics and outdoor activities including Duke of Edinburgh.

We have a very enthusiastic and committed team of staff and a wide range of modern, purpose built facilities which enable us to offer our students a stimulating variety of experiences and activities, both in and out of the classroom. As a small school with a calm working atmosphere and plenty of space we are also one of the High Peak’s best kept secrets - come and see!
