Support for Families
Being a parent/carer can at times be a challenging experience. To support parents/carers this page provides information about the internal support we can offer within school as well as external organisations who may be able to offer help, support and guidance.
Family support
Some families require additional support with specific needs in a targeted, helpful way. At New Mills School, family support is offered in two ways, via Team Around the Child or Early Help.
What is a Team Around the Child service?
The purpose of a Team Around the Child (TAC) service is to provide an opportunity for professionals with families to explore the current situation within a family dynamic and create an action plan of support. These meetings would be coordinated within school and involve regular (between 6-8 weekly meetings) to support families.
The aim of this service is to enable families to feel stronger and more confident, and to make sure children and young people get the right support at the right time.
What is Early Help?
New Mills School operates an internal Early Help service, which may be required for families. We will work collaboratively with medical professionals, support/charity organisations and, where necessary, local primary and post 16 providers to support the family.
As part of a co-ordinated approach we will ensure that parents and carers have access to support and advice that will help them in their parenting role so that their children can grow up to achieve positive outcomes. We aim to work with families in and open, honest, yet constructive way.
We can offer a range of services for parents/carers and children/young people in order to maximise outcomes for families.
These include:
