Y7, Y8 & Y9

At New Mills School we believe that Year 7, Year 8 and Year 9 are the "engine room of success". A student with sound foundations formed in these years will have the knowledge, skills, habits and values to succeed in their chosen path. Our curriculum supports the development of these foundations. Ever student begins each day in the same way; a 25 minute tutorial session with their tutor. This tutorial consists of a 10 minute "5Rs Health Check" where the basics of uniform and equipment are checked and there is a rolling programme of checks on conduct, rewards, attendance etc. The remaining 15 minutes is spent working on projects which develop one or more of our core values (the 5R's). Students then work through 5 one hour lessons on a two-weekly timetable. They have access to hot and cold food during the 15 minute morning break (10:10 - 10:25am) and at lunchtime (12:25 - 1:10pm) The library is accessible before school, at break, lunch time and after school and provides student with a space to study, complete work online or paper based) and read. There is a homwork club after school every day in student services where students can complete homework with adults on hand for support.

In Year 7, students complete tutorial projects focused on: Introducing the 5Rs, Introducing CEG, Metacognition, Learning Together, a National Competition, Physical & Mental Wellbeing, Charity Fundraising.
